Work Record 1

Work Record One

I'm going to take pictures over in the town park to where I can have a few trees with the sky as the main focus. Also, by adding the trees in the photo helps add a bit of texture/ interest.

Research Artist

I was inspired by both Stephen Shore and Simon Roberts due to the heavy detail they have in the clouds, and I wanted to be able achieve something similar.

Stephen Shore:

I was inspired by this photo by Stephen Shore because I liked how he captured a lot of detail in the clouds but still balanced it out with the plain blue sky creating a peaceful and soothing affect. This is something I could try to aim for when I am taking photos on a partially cloudy day to create an interesting contrast.

Simon Roberts:

I was inspired by this photo by Simon Roberts because he has still managed to capture a lot of heavy detail in the clouds and has balanced it out with the lighter areas which have no detail in them at all. This is something I could try to aim for if I am taking photos on a very overcast day because I could still end up with good and intriguing photos.

Best Images

I like this image because the ground and the sky is equally distributed and you can see the definition of the sky and the clouds. I like how the ground is a plain colour so all of the focus is on the clouds. I like how I was able to get the right settings so you could see the definition of the clouds.

I like this photo because it has more interesting elments, such as the fake horse which intrigues the viewer. Also, I was able to get the correct settings so the blue sky was visible and the definitions of the clouds were still strong.

I like this photo because it is different to the other types of photos I have taken. I like how I've framed the plant in the middle of the frame and have the sky surrounding it in the background. However, this photo is slightly over exposed to I would have to change some of the photos features in photoshop.

Images that require improvement

I do not like this photo because it is too overly exposed and you cannot see any detail from the photo at all. Also, you cannot see the sky in this picture or much from the ground. I had my camera settings too high for this photo because I was originally facing away from the sun and had a higher aperture.

I do not like this photo because I had my aperture set too hight, therefore, too much light was let into the camera. This caused the photo to be overly exposed and you cannot see the sky and you can just about make out the landscape in the distance. To improve this and all of my overly expose photos, I would have to pay more attention the the exposure dial.

This photo was taken at the beginning of this shoot, and I was still figuring out my camera settings, therefore I had an overly exposed photo because I had my aperture too high. To make sure I avoided this for the rest of my shoot I decreased my aperture so less light was let into the frame.

AO3
For this shoot, I decided to go to a garden in Chelmsford and take pictures of the landscape I could see around me. I was inspired by some of Stephen Shore and Simon Roberts photography work because they have both taken pictures of the sky with a lot of detail within the clouds. After seeing work like this, I was inspired to do something similar and take pictures of the sky when it was a very cloudy day.

When I was out taking this shoot, I mainly focused on the sky but I later realised how both Stephen Shore and Simon Roberts have interesting factors in their photos. Therefore, I used what was around me and took pictures using different angles so I would get the new element and the sky in the photo, such as the fake horse and the plant.

AO2
To take these photos, I used my Canon 600D camera with a EPS 18-55 Canon lens. However, for some of my photos I did not pay attention to my exposure dial, therefore, I had overly exposed. I had my ISO set to 400 due to the weather being overcast and my shutter speed set to 1/125. I had my aperture set to 5.6 for part of the way through the shoot until I started manipulate the settings depending on what shot I was taking.

Manipulating my photos

AO1
My artists influencers for this shoot was Simon Roberts and Stephen Shore, some of their photos are of very cloudy days but still make the picture look interesting. Their photos had a lot of detail in the clouds creating an interesting photo which draws you in the more you look at the photo. I wanted to create the same affect when I took pictures of the sky and the clouds.

AO4
To make these images more personal to me, I decided to take these photos in Chelmsford because I have many memories from there and whenever I think of Chelmsford I have good and happy memories. My intentions for this shoot was to have an equal distribution of the sky and the landscape so the photos would look balanced and equal.

I like how these photos ended up because I was able to edit them in Photoshop to bring out the detail in the clouds using their shadows and highlights, just like Simon Roberts and Stephen Shore does in their images. Also, I was able to bring back more of the colour in the images to help make the overall image seem more interesting instead of being one plain dull colour. Editing these photos allowed me to experiment with different ways on how to bring back more colour in my photos when there was originally very little.
