For this shoot I decided to go into the local garden near me and take photos of the sky through the trees and the by the church. I took this shoot later on in the day so I could get a darker photos so it was slightly different compared to the other shoots I have done in the past where I have taken the roughly around midday.
Research Artist
Inspired by Stephen Shore, he made me realise that I could use different times of the day to produce intriguing sky photos and develop my final images even more.

This photo inspired me because I liked the different colours the sky has at dusk and the subtle texture from the clouds. Also, I like how the photo has a overall darker tone but the sky provides a slight contrast by having highlight going through the cloud from where the sun has hit it. This is something I could aim for when I do a shoot around dusk time and get a slightly darker shoot but still have a contrast from the sky to help it stand out further.

Best Images
I like this photo because it is only of the sky demonstrating a clear aim and has not other elements in the picture to distract from the sky. Additionally, I like how the clouds show a lot of texture making the photo seem more interesting, because of the texture it has created tone in the cloud causing a foreboding effect. This draws the eye in more and focus more on the darker areas of the cloud because the tone makes it more interesting.
I like this photo because the church and trees at the bottom of the image makes it look more interesting by filling up the frame slightly. Additionally, I like how the clouds go from a light orangey/ peachy colour to a darkish blue, the colour adds an extra element and helps the eye travel up the photo.
I like how the clouds in this photo have a lot of texture and go from a very light shade of peach/ orange to a dark shade of blue. These formal elements help add interesting factors and detail to my photo. Also, I like how there are no other clouds in the background which could of made the photo seem more busy a crowded.
I like how the sky is plain because it helps more of the focus to be on the moon and lamp. Due to the lamp being a strong, bold colour it helps create a strong contrast. Also, the top of the lamp almost looks like an arrow which is pointing towards the moon and making the viewer's eye to be dragged through the whole image.
I like how the trees add an extra element of texture and fill up the empty space to make the photo seem more intriguing. Also, I like how the trees look like an arrow pointing up towards the moon and allowing the viewer to travel through the photo. I like how the top half of the photo is plain and has no clouds so the main focus is on the moon, and nothing else is distracting.
I like how the tree in the centre of the frame adds texture which mimics the cloud and has no leaves so you can still see the colour and detail of the cloud behind it. Also, I like how the bottom half of the photo is blacked out so it creates a strong contrast to the sky above.
Images that require improvement
I don't like this photo because the branches make it seem too busy and the moon is partly cut out by one of them. Also, different trees are in this picture, therefore, it creates an overcrowding affect because not all of the branches follow the same patter.
I don't like this photo because there isn't a lot of detail, pattern or colour in the sky. Also, because the buildings are darker it creates an overall gloomy affect because the clouds are also very dark.
I don't like this photo because there is not contrast due to there being a lack of colour and texture from the cloud and sky. Therefore, this makes my photo seem a lot more boring and plain, and creating a dark, gloomy affect because there is only grey in the image.
AO3
For this shoot, I went around the local church garden in my town and waited till dusk to take them. I was inspired my Stephen Shore because he has taken a few photos around dusk which inspired me to do the same. His photos have a tiny bit of colour in them which is smoothly blended in with the dark blue from the clouds.
My third best image demonstrates how I have achieved this because there is a small amount of colour near the church but eventually blends in with the darker blue sky/ clouds which Stephen Shore's photos did. This photo helps demonstrate that I understand how Shore's technique works and I have developed my idea of sky further by taking photos at dusk instead of during the day, giving a variety of photos which I can later develop in photoshop.
AO2
I had my ISO set to 800 and towards the end of the shoot 1600 because it was late in the day and it was getting darker, therefore, i needed more light to get into the camera to get the correct exposed image, and set my shutter speed to 1/125 for most of the shoot. I had my aperture set to 11.0 and towards the end of the shoot 16.0 so I could allow more light into the camera so I did not end up with an under or over exposed image. Once again, I used my Canon 600D and my EPS 18-55 lens.
Manipulating my Images

AO1
The artist I decided to research was Stephen Shore and he helped me come up with more ideas on what I could do to take pictures of the sky, for example, going to take pictures later on in the day. The colour was minimal in the photo but was still visible due to them being vibrant. I wanted to create a similar affect in my photos because it would make my photos look mysterious and intriguing by the colour not being too over powering.
AO4
To make these more personal to me, for one of my images I converted part of the photo into black and white to help the light and moon standout even more. Also, this allows me to experiment with different techniques in photoshop and develop my ideas even further. Also, I corrected some of the colours in the photos to help emphasise them and make the photo seem more intriguing to the viewer. This links to Stephen Shore because in a lot of his photos the vibrancy is high making his photos standout a lot more because he has also taken pictures of objects with strong, bold colours which he has later emphasised.

I like how these photos have ended up because the vibrancy in the colour is very dominant and takes a strong place in the photo. Also, due to the colour being strong, it has created a lot of texture in the clouds because the tones help emphasise the shadowy areas. The colours in the photo help create a strong contrast between the darker and lighter areas making the photos look overall more intriguing. Also, I like how I converted one of my photos into black and white but kept the lamppost and moon in colour to help make them stand out.
