Work Record 5

Work Record 5

For this shoot, I took pictures of the sky on the golf course I play on.

Research Artist

I was influenced by Simon Roberts because he uses different angles to create his photos

I like this photo because he has equally distributed the sky and the landscape to make the photo seem more balanced. Also, he has taken this photo from a high up angle to create the affect that we are looking down and across the field towards the sky. This is something I cloud aim for when I am thinking about what angle to take my photos because I could take them from high up angles and also a lot lower angles and make the viewer seem that they are looking up towards the sky.

Best Images

I like this photo because it is a lot different to what I have taken pictures of before, and shows how I have been experimenting with different ways of taking pictures of the sky. Also, I like how the trees add texture and create a curved line towards the ball allowing the viewer to travel along the leading line and through the picture.

I like how the two trees help fill up the frame slight and add more texture in the image, this helps make the photo seem more interesting and less plain. I like how the sky has not clouds and texture when the trees do creating a strong contrast.

I like how I have split the frame equally to help it look more balanced. Also, I like the strong contrast this photo gives from the high detail from the trees and the planish sky, this gives an overall calming and peaceful affect because everything is balanced with each other.

I like how the trees cut off part of the sky from the frame to add extra detail because there is no clouds in the sky to help add extra. Also, I like how the trees almost create a leading line around the edge of the frame to help carry the viewers eye through the photo.

Worst Images

I don't like this photo because it is too overly exposed because I have set my aperture too high and allowed too much light into the lens. Therefore, this hides the details from the photo because the extra light has made the photo slightly more whited out.

I don't like this photo because the sun is not defined nicely therefore creating some parts of the photo slightly whitewashed and makes the photo look less appealing. To improve this photo I would make sure to keep an eye on my exposure dial and make sure my aperture is set correctly.

I do not like this photo because I tried to capture the reflection of the sky in the water, however, to make this photo seem more interesting I could of taken an image like this when it was slightly more cloudy so more detail would of been reflected on the water.

AO3
For this shoot, I went around the golf course that I play and took pictures of the sky through the trees and looking over the golf course. Simon Roberts influenced me on this photo by thinking about which angles I could use when i'm taking photos because he normally takes photos from a high advantage point by standing on top of a van. While looking through his work, it made me think of the different angles I could use when I'm trying to take photos of the sky.

My second best image helps portray this because I got onto the ground and took pictures of the sky through a golf ball. This helped me frame the photo in an interesting way and allowed me to experiment with different elements to make my photos seem more interesting.

AO2
I used my Canon 600D camera with a EPS 18-55 Canon lens for this shoot. I had my shutter speed set to 1/125 and my ISO set to 200 because it was a sunny day. I had my aperture set to 8.0 because I didn't want too much light to be let into lens otherwise I would of had an overly exposed photo. However, depending on where I was and what angle I was shooting at I would of had to change my aperture accordingly.

Manipulating my Images

AO1
I decided to research Simon Roberts because he influenced me on to think about what angle I take my photos from, and giving me multiple ideas. I wanted my work to stand out, therefore, I took them from unusual angles, this allowed me to experiment with different methods on how to take photos and make them seem more interesting. However, Simon Roberts was able to stand on top of a van and take pictures from very high up to get a different advantage points, I was not able to access a similar thing due to health and safety.

AO4
To makes these more personal to me, I decided to take photos on a golf course that I love to play on. My intentions for this shoot was to experiment with different angles like Simon Roberts and develop my knowledge of taking photos with the sky. Also, by doing this, it will allow me to experiment with different techniques in photoshop and develop them further.

I like how these photos came out because I was able to experiment with different settings to create a more strong and cold coloured sky which stands out more compared the to scenery. Also, I like how I have experimented with the gradient tool to create an interesting photo where it smoothly transitions to a coloured photo to a black and white photo.
